Term evaluation is an important aspect of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE).It covers the assessment oflearning aspect of the CCE. The Kerala School Curriculum 2013postulated that the examination system should be recast so as to ensure a method of assessmentthat is a valid, reliable and objective measure of student development and a powerfulinstrument for improving the learning process. The outcome focused written tests are beingused as tools for terminal assessment. Practical assessment is also considered for somesubjects. The syllabus, scheme of work, textual materials, teacher texts and learningexperiences may be considered while developing tools for term evaluation.In order to make the examination system effective and objective, quality of the question paperneeds to be ensured. Questions of different types considering various learning outcomes,thinking skills and of varying difficulty levels are to be included in the question paper. Thismakes question paper setting a significant task that has to be undertaken with the support ofproper guidelines
Higher Secondary
English Course Book is designed to meet the growing demands of students
in the challenging and competent age. It mainly focuses on making the
learners use the language efficiently and appropriately in the
situations they encounter. All units are based on specific objectives
centered on learner outcomes. To know the progress of study, assessments
are done through two types of evaluation – Continuous and Comprehensive
Evaluation (CE) and Term Evaluation (TE).
Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation
CCE is done to ensure the learner participation in the learning process,
his comprehension skills, ability to present the knowledge acquired ,
his clarity of concept and its originality etc. CE is done by 3 types –
learning process assessment, Portfolio assessment, Unit based
assessment. Maximum score for CE is 20.
Term Evaluation
Unlike other subjects, here assessment is done by considering language
elements, discourses, language skills. Maximum score is 80.

Higher Secondary First Year(Plus One) English
English Course Book consists of 6 units. Each unit comprises number of
chapters like prose, poem, play etc. and they are topically linked also.

Quest For the Theory of Everything(Profile) and
IF(poem)
This Unit introduces unique characters who motivate the learners to
dream high. It stresses the need to develop self confidence and fight
against the hardships and overcome them.
Activities on focus - Read and comprehend stories, speeches, profiles,
personal essays, writing reviews, prepare interview questions and using
cohesive devices and conditionals effectively.
UNIT 2: WORDS AND DEEDS
Three Chapters are there in the Second unit
And Then Gandhi Came (Essay)
Death the Leveller (Poem)
The Price of Flowers (Short story)
It creates an awareness that good deeds give meaning to life. It upholds
the significance of values and attitudes in life.
Activities on Focus – Note making, speech, drafting letters, character
sketches, using concord appropriately, literary elements etc:-
